M & R | Captain Whidbey Elopement
If you are dreaming of a Pacific Northwest elopement that feels cozy, intimate, and full of beautiful design touches, Captain Whidbey might just be the wedding venue for you.
Mehar and Richard planned their intimate elopement at Captain Whidbey not just because of how beautiful the property is, but also due to its significance throughout their relationship. Richard is from Maine, and during the pandemic when they couldn’t travel to visit the rocky New England coastline, they would travel up to Whidbey Island from Seattle for PNW staycations with that same coastal feeling. It is also where they got engaged!
When it came time to plan their Whidbey Island Elopement, they knew this would be the perfect place to celebrate their love. We wandered around the grounds of Captain Whidbey capturing their portraits on film, stopping by the very spot where Richard had proposed, and heading into the historic inn for more photos. They invited their immediate family and a couple of close friends to witness their nuptials at Island County Superior Court in Coupeville Washington.
Captain Whidbey is the perfect PNW Wedding Venue. This stunning historic inn built in 1907, is right on the edge of Penn Cove (known for it’s incredible shellfish). Remodeled in 2019, The Captain Whidbey Inn has preserved all of its historic charm. Creaky floor boards, cozy fireplaces, an intimate atmosphere, thoughtful design touches, and a wonderful restaurant.
Why the Captain Whidbey is our favorite PNW wedding venue:
The Beautiful Grounds: The waterfront property is sprawling, with a dock stretching out onto the cove, a beach front speckled with shells, cute gardens, a lagoon with a charming bridge, and plenty of open spaces. Whether you're having an intimate elopement or a bigger celebration, there are so many ways to make the space your own. We love how the venue naturally blends into the landscape—it's perfect for couples who want a nature-inspired wedding.
Lodging On-Site: The on-site accommodations are what truly sets Captain Whidbey apart. You and your guests can stay right there, which makes the entire wedding weekend feel like a true escape, an immersive experience. It’s so much easier to relax and enjoy the weekend when you’re not worried about traveling to and from a hotel to a venue to another venue.
The Historic Vibe: There's something magical about a venue that feels like it has stories to tell. Captain Whidbey’s historic inn brings that feeling. The architecture, the original details, and the cozy nooks make it feel like you’re stepping back in time—but without sacrificing modern comforts.
Exclusivity: Want to feel like you have the entire island to yourself? At Captain Whidbey, you can. The venue offers exclusive use of the property for your wedding, which means you and your guests will have total privacy to celebrate. The feeling of a camp wedding, without feeling like you are camping. The escape of an island wedding, but one of the few PNW islands that you can drive on and off of!
